DEEPLY ROOTED POEM:
REPARATIONS
I’m Mentally, Physically, Spiritually, Lyrically strong black man
Standing tall on the souls of my ancestors
Malcolm, Garvey, Marley
No time for stalling, only brawling
Against unjust ways
Having my people as New Millennium Slaves
Brought up through the last days
They say the times has changed
Well it has
There’s a new Racism called Classism
We went from being black to just being poor
This problem can’t be ignored
Time to explore
Why my city was under water
Can’t go back making shit harder
I’m getting smarter
Hip to the things you do
Liberty for all that shit is so untrue
Never catch me salute the Red, White, and Blue
Only see one color and that’s Black
Time to take this bitch back
We built it from the ground up
Now we the one’s stuck
Niggas grab your nines and your shottas
Stop hollering where the hood at
Fuck that, Where the land at
Standing tall on the souls of my ancestors
Malcolm, Garvey, Marley
No time for stalling, only brawling
Against unjust ways

CLASSIC KICKS: Nike Air Max 95 Grey/Purple/Charcoal
Set to hit your local retailers in July is the Nike Air Max 95 Grey/Purple/Charcoal. A favorite of Air Max enthusiast, we can pretty much assure you these are going to be flying off the shelves.
Like most 95s, the upper sticks to the script of a gradient upper that transitions into a new color. The difference here is that the color doesn’t remain the same for the rest of the shoe. As the grey slowly transitions into black on the upper, Nike has decided to completely change the eyelets to teal; matching the color within the Air Bubble in the outsole. Additionally, the tongue is purple and matches the Nike branding throughout the shoe. As previously stated, look for these to hit store shelves in July.

TAKING U BACK:
Taking U back to the Classic Camp Lo debut album Uptown Saturday Night released in January 1997. The effort was widely acclaimed, praised for its accessible content and smooth, funk and jazz inspired production. The majority of the album was produced by Ski, famous for his work with Jay-Z. Throughout the album, the group displays a style that is heavily influenced by 1970s pop culture. The title is a reference to the 1974 film Uptown Saturday Night. The album debuted at #27 on the Billboard 200, and featured the hit single "Luchini AKA This Is It". The title of their debut single "Coolie High" is a reference to the 1975 film Cooley High. The album cover was inspired by Ernie Barnes' painting The Sugar Shack which was used as the cover of Marvin Gaye's 1976 album I Want You and in the credits sequence of the 1970s sitcom Good Times. The music video for the album's final single, "Black Nostaljack", featured Jimmie Walker and Bern Nadette Stanis reprising their Good Times characters of J.J. and Thelma Evans. Enjoy that video and others released off the album below as well as the tracklisting.

CLASSIC KICKS: Nike Air DT Max 96 Returns Holiday 2010
I am not sure what is happening over in Nike Retro land, but either someone got in trouble last year, or they are trying to make this the biggest retro year yet. The folks over at TSG have just uncovered some interesting information about the Nike Air DT Max 96 returning for the upcoming holiday season.
The Nike Air DT Max 96 sports a combination of leather and suede on the upper with a velcro strap that fits across the midfoot. They shoe is most well known for its print on the side panels which resembles zebra stripes. This is not the first time these were released as a retro; both colorways were released in 2007.

DEEPLY ROOTED POEM:
THESE DAYS
Can you sense the world is coming to an end
Just listen to the cries of the youth in the inner cities
Listen to the pain of the mothers
What a pity
Damn, we need Marvin. “What’s Happening Brother”
Can you sense the world is coming to an end
Look at how they did the homeland of mankind
Look at how they left the poor to drown
It’s past the time
Damn, She’s coming back to claim her crown
Can you sense the world is coming to an end
Feel the hatred we have for one another
Feel the horror that’s killing our souls
Too late to run for cover
Damn, we must now live in the cold
Just listen to the cries of the youth in the inner cities
Listen to the pain of the mothers
What a pity
Damn, we need Marvin. “What’s Happening Brother”

NEWS FLASH:
The sad news came today that Gangstarr’s Guru passed away after his long battle with cancer. He was 43. Solar, who managed Guru in his last days says Guru left a final letter (?) explaining his disease with words for his fans and a final statement for the legendary DJ Premier. You can read the letter below. Rest In Peace Guru. Gangstarr forever.
I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options.
I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody’s feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the love of my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.
I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Jay Electronica
Jay Electronica (Je’Ri Allah) Originally from New Orleans, LA he has lived in Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Denver, and Detroit, is a rapper and producer known for his use of percussionist film soundtracks as a background for his abstract lyrical style, and his associations with Erykah Badu, Just Blaze and Nas. He produced the first track, "Queens Get the Money", on the 2008 Nas album Untitled. The unconventional nature of much of his music, and the lack of conventional release methods for that music, have since 2007 made him the object of much attention. He was perhaps best known for the piece of music Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge), until the release of the Just Blaze-produced track "Exhibit C" in late 2009. Jay has yet to release a full lenght album but we have a mixtape for U that coulda been an album, download Jay Electronica on the Come Up below.

DEEPLY ROOTED POEM:
MY BEST FRIEND
Meet my Best Friend, his name is Struggle
We never see good times
Hard times is what we endure
He told me that he making me stronger
Cause life ain’t nothing to play with
True, life is a bitch
But I swear to God, I’m sick of Struggles shit
Only thing is, he been by my side forever and a day, what can I say
Not too many know about the household drug abuse
The mental abuse
The emotional issues
Not to mention his little brother Financial, who I hated
When realizing who my real friends are, I knew Struggle was
Through it all me and Struggle was always Best Friends
But it comes a time when some Best Friends must part
Just don’t know how to leave a relationship I’ve had since I can remember…………........
With my Best Friend.

CLASSIC KICKS: Nike Blazer (Vintage)
This pair of vintage Blazers are done in grey suede with just a touch of sail as the accenting color. What we love the most about these though is the detailing on the tongue and lining. Nothing like those old school materials holding the design down to give it that touch of nostalgia.
The vintage effect may be for some and could simply turn others off but the shoes that you find it on typically are pretty dope. If you can live with a slightly yellowed sole we suggest that you give em a try.
