TAKING U BACK:

Taking U back to What's the 411? The debut album by recording artist Mary J. Blige, released July 28, 1992. After being signed to Uptown Records, Blige began working with record producer Puff Daddy. He became the executive producer and produced a majority of the album. The title, What's the 411?, derived from Blige's past occupation as a 4-1-1 operator; it was also an indication by Blige of being the "real deal". The album contains elements of hip hop soul and new jack swing, The music was described as "revelatory on a frequent basis". Blige was noted for having a "tough girl persona and streetwise lyrcs", which gave the album "a gritty undertone and a realism missing from much of the devotional love songs ruling the charts at that time".

The album lead to Blige being dubbed as the reigning "Queen of Hip Hop Soul". Stanton Swihart of Allmusic called the album "the decade's most explosive, coming-out displays of pure singing prowess". It is argued that the album is "one of the most important albums of the nineties". The album earned Blige two Soul Train Music Awards in 1993: Best New R&B Artist and Best R&B Album, Female.

Blige's combination of vocals over a hip hop beat became influential in R&B. She is credited for creating the hybrid genre hip hop soul, as well as pioneering neo soul. Along with Puff Daddy, Blige attributed to the "sample-heavy sound that reinvigorated urban radio", which became "a blueprint for nineties hip-hop and R&B".

The Nike Air Griffey Max II is slated to make its return to retail next summer and following the success of Nike Air Griffey Max 1′s rerelease its sure to be met with a very warm reception. The Seattle Mariners themed sneaker features a majority black build with teal accents to match. As of now we don’t have an exact date but we do have a hunch that the shoes will also be releasing in quite a few colorways. How do your guys feel about this retro seeing the light of day? CLASSIC KICKS: Nike Foamposite Pro-Pearl

Originally released in May as a House of Hoops exclusive, the Nike Foamposite Pro Pearl is set to hit shelves of Foot Locker on September 3rd. While this is still not a full release, this will make the shoe available to a lot more people around the country.

Unlike the other Foamposites we have seen recently, the “Pearl” retains the Nike Swoosh on the lateral upper. Other features such as the translucent outsole, bold black lettering, and pearl foamposite, make this a much sought after variation of the 1997 original. Look for them to release September 3rd at Foot Locker locations.

CLASSIC KICKS: Nike Air Diamond Turf Black/White-Teal

The Nike Air Diamond Turf in the original colorway hit store shelves earlier this month and were pretty much gone by the end of that same weekend. If you were not one of the few lucky enough to grab a pair, Nike has a little something up their sleeve that may make up for it.

The Nike Air Diamond Turf in a Black/White-Teal has been spotted on the streets and gives us hope a release in the near future. The shoe feature black nubuck to dominate the upper with white leather pieces just above the mudguard and on the strap. The black sole, which features hints of teal in the front and the back, easily bleeds into the black mudguard. Teal accents are seen throughout the upper including the Nike branding on the heel and tongue. No official release date has been confirmed, but word is that they will hit the streets in Spring 2011.
