ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Kendrick Lamar

If you haven’t noticed, the West Coast has brewing some raw talent the past year. Everyone from Pac Div to Nipsey Hussle, Fashawn, Jay Rock and countless other who are reppin’ the sunshine state hard in 2009. Although Kendrick Lamar might have slipped under your radar when it comes to the more prominent up and comers, this EP is his introduction to the world. Formerly known as K.Dot, Kendrick Lamar steadily collaborated with Jay Rock and the Black Hippy squad as well as dropped a couple videos to end the year strong and give you an personal insight to who he is.

The Kendrick Lamar EP (would a project with 15 tracks be considered an EP?) boasts features from Jay Rock, BJ The Chicago Kid, Ab Soul, Rapper Pooh from Little Brother and more, but most importantly — it’s a small look into modern day Compton, California. We’ve come a long way since N.W.A. and The Chronic but 2010 is still looking to be a promising year for the West Coast.
